Dak Prescott Says hamstring is improving
Sat, Apr 12, 2025, 1:31 PM
Prescott said Friday that he is progressing in his recovery from a torn right hamstring to the extent that he could theoretically play now, if needed, per ESPN.com. "If I had to play a game today, I definitely could do that," Prescott stated.
Analysis: Prescott's season came to an end after just eight games last season due to the hamstring injury, and he underwent surgery in mid-November. The veteran quarterback has been rehabbing since, and his comments Friday suggest that everything has gone smoothly in his recovery. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said in late March that Prescott will be limited during the initial portion of the Cowboys' offseason program, but Jones also mentioned that Prescott's rehab was going well. It appears both the organization and the player are eyeing a cautious approach to organized team activities, which begin in May, as Prescott indicated Friday that he'll take part in some capacity but added, "Then again I just understand my age, what I've had, what I've went through, it's about being my best in the fall. So I'm not rushing anything, but I'm where I want to be."
Joe Milton
Joe Milton Bound for Dallas
Thu, Apr 3, 2025, 9:19 AM
The Cowboys acquired Milton and a 2025 seventh-round pick from the Patriots on Thursday in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: A 2024 sixth-round pick, Milton spent most of his rookie season behind Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye on the depth chart but got the chance to play extended snaps in a win over the Bills in Week 18, when he completed 22 of 29 pass attempts for 241 yards and a touchdown to go with 16 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. After the Patriots let Brissett walk in free agency before bringing in a more experienced backup option in Joshua Dobbs to serve as Maye's backup in 2025, Milton will be moved to Dallas, where he'll serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind Dak Prescott (hamstring).

Dak Prescott Slated to be limited this offseason
Sun, Mar 30, 2025, 2:11 PM
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Sunday that Prescott (hamstring) will participate in a limited fashion to begin the offseason program, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Jones added that Prescott is continuing to do well in his recovery from a season-ending torn right hamstring, saying, "He's very thrilled with where he is. And I know the trainers are too," according to Machota." The 31-year-old underwent season-ending surgery in mid-November, and his timeline for a full recovery was expected to take about three months, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The quarterback had middling production through eight games last season with 11 touchdowns to eight interceptions while completing 65 percent of his passes. The quarterback had middling production through eight games last season with 11 touchdowns to eight interceptions while completing 65 percent of his passes. As one of the teams that hired a new head coach, Dallas' offseason workouts are scheduled to start April 7, which is two weeks earlier than teams with no head coaching change. These early workouts will be the best opportunity to evaluate Prescott's health until the mandatory OTAs and minicamp that typically occur during mid-June. The start date for this offseason's OTAs has yet to be determined. Participating in the offseason program under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who was elevated from offensive coordinator this offseason, could be critical as Prescott aims to bounce back in 2025.
Parris Campbell
Parris Campbell Agrees to deal with Dallas
Sat, Mar 15, 2025, 3:03 PM
Campbell and the Cowboys agreed to a one-year contract Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Campbell was with Philadelphia all of last season, but he played in only five regular-season games as he bounced between the team's practice squad and active roster. He recorded a career-low 30 receiving yards on six catches while getting into the end zone one time over those five contests. Campbell was also active for three of the Eagles' four postseason games, but he logged just six offensive snaps and didn't see any targets. He'll be in the running for a depth role in Dallas' receiving corps this season.
Miles Sanders
Miles Sanders Joins Dallas
Thu, Mar 13, 2025, 11:13 PM
Sanders signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys on Thursday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Panthers released Sanders on Tuesday after he had a pair of disappointing seasons with the team. He'll now join the Cowboys looking to revitalize his career, and he should have the chance to capture a decent workload as the roster is currently constructed. Javonte Williams is the only other back on the depth chart capable of carrying a traditional workload, though Sanders' fantasy potential won't become clear until after the NFL Draft in late April.
KaVontae Turpin
KaVontae Turpin Re-signs for three years
Tue, Mar 11, 2025, 1:10 PM
Turpin and the Cowboys reached agreement Tuesday on a three-year contract, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports
Analysis: The report notes that Turpin will become the "highest-paid special teams player in NFL history", although part of the motivation for re-signing him is that he's also a significant contributor on offense. He caught 31 of 52 targets for 420 yards and two TDs last season, adding 16 carries for 92 yards, 18 punt returns for 187 yards (with one TD) and 27 kick returns for 904 yards (and another TD). Turpin is a late bloomer who went undrafted back in 2019 and didn't make a regular-season appearance until 2022, which explains why he'll be 29 years old at the start of his fourth NFL campaign come September. He'll presumably land somewhere between third and fifth on the depth chart at wide receiver, in addition to returning both punts and kickoffs.
Javonte Williams
Javonte Williams Moving on to Dallas
Mon, Mar 10, 2025, 6:28 PM
Williams is in line to sign a one-year contract with the Cowboys, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The deal has a base salary of $3 million with the potential to earn $3.5 million overall via incentives. This move appears to be the first step in moving on from Rico Dowdle, Dallas' starting running back last year, as Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis are the other players at the position under contract in 2025. There's still time for the Cowboys to add via free agency and especially the draft, but as the backfield stands, Williams is the clear No. 1 option at the moment. In four campaigns with the Broncos, the 2021 second-round pick averaged 4.0 yards per carry and 62.2 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring 16 total touchdowns in 54 regular-season contests.

Dak Prescott Restructures to open up cap space
Wed, Mar 5, 2025, 1:18 PM
Prescott (hamstring) and the Cowboys agreed to terms Wednesday on a contract restructure that opens up $36.6 million in cap space, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Prescott's restructure comes just after the Cowboys made a similar move with CeeDee Lamb's contract, with the two adjustments freeing up a combined $56.6 million in cap space one week before the official start of free agency. The pair of transactions signal a willingness from the Cowboys to make a splash on the open market this offseason or work out a long-term deal for three-time All-Pro Micah Parsons. Prescott remains on track in his recovery from a torn right hamstring that he had surgically repaired back in November.
CeeDee Lamb
CeeDee Lamb Agrees to contract restructure
Tue, Mar 4, 2025, 1:36 PM
Lamb (shoulder) and the Cowboys agreed to terms Tuesday on a restructured contract that will create roughly $20 million in salary cap space for the team, Tommy Yarrish of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Lamb is working his way back from an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder, which caused him to miss the final two games of the 2024 campaign, but he should be fully recovered by the time Dallas' offseason activities begin. The Pro Bowl wideout posted a 101-1,194-6 receiving line on 152 targets across 15 regular-season appearances last season, despite being paired with quarterback Dak Prescott (hamstring) for only eight of those contests. Getting Lamb and Prescott back at full health will provide reason for optimism with the Cowboys' passing game under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, whose scheme promises an uptick in play action and improvements in the running game.
Rico Dowdle
Rico Dowdle Wanted in Dallas
Tue, Feb 25, 2025, 2:49 PM
Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said Monday that the team hopes to re-sign Dowdle, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Dowdle is scheduled for free agency at the beginning of the league year, with Dallas being the only team that can attempt to sign him before then. His breakout in 2024 figures to lead to a contract with considerable guarantees this offseason, but it's hard to say if teams will view Dowdle as a viable starter or more of a high-end backup. Having spent most of his pro career at the back of the Cowboys' roster or on their practice squad, Dowdle is unlikely to give a hometown discount, as this may be his only shot at a sizable contract. He'll turn 27 in June.
Cooper Rush
Cooper Rush Too pricey for Dallas?
Mon, Feb 24, 2025, 3:31 PM
Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said the team thinks highly of Rush but won't necessarily re-sign him, David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: "You know how much we think of [Rush]," Jones said. "We just don't know what he's going to cost. When we're paying Dak [Prescott] what we're paying him, unfortunately we do have to go cheap there." Jones also hinted at the likelihood of third-stringer Trey Lance moving on to a new team, potentially leaving the Cowboys to sort through rookies or bottom-of-the-barrel veterans for the backup QB work in 2025. Rush has won nine of 14 starts in his career, likely putting him near the top of the backup market even though he's 31 years old.
Trey Lance
Trey Lance Likely moving on from Dallas
Mon, Feb 24, 2025, 3:28 PM
Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said Lance is "probably going to be looking for something different" this offseason, David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Lance was the Cowboys' third-string quarterback the past two seasons, after they traded a fourth-round pick for him shortly before the start of the 2023 campaign. He played decent in his one start -- a 23-19 loss to Washington in Week 18 of this past season -- but it sounds like the Cowboys would rather draft a new quarterback to develop behind starter Dak Prescott. Both Lance and second-stringer Cooper Rush are scheduled for free agency this spring, with Jones already suggesting that Rush's solid work as a backup may have priced him out of the Cowboys' range.
Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott Recovery proceeding well
Wed, Feb 12, 2025, 9:46 AM
Prescott (hamstring) said Wednesday his "health is good," and noted that he's "really looking to amp it up here recently" in terms of his rehab process, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Prescott added that he is now "12 weeks or so" removed from his season-ending surgical procedure, which he underwent in November to address a torn right hamstring. The 31-year-old quarterback indicated that his rehab program is moving in a positive direction, and his expected recovery timeframe leaves open the possibility that Prescott could be fully cleared for the beginning of OTAs. Prescott also expressed excitement about new head coach Brian Schottenheimer's offensive approach, singling out a commitment to the running game and increased play-action as improvements being brought to the Dallas offense. His numbers were underwhelming across his eight appearances in 2024 with 1,978 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions, so Prescott's fantasy outlook for the 2025 campaign will depend both on his returning to full health and Schottenheimer's ability to innovate on offense.
Brevyn Spann-Ford
Brevyn Spann-Ford Fills depth role as rookie
Mon, Jan 13, 2025, 12:12 PM
Spann-Ford caught nine of 14 targets for 88 yards over 17 regular-season games in 2024.
Analysis: The undrafted rookie out of Minnesota did well to suit up for every game, but he was mainly limited to blocking assignments while Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker were healthy. Six of Spann-Ford's nine receptions came over two games in Weeks 11-12 while Ferguson worked through a concussion however, hinting as some upside as a pass catcher. Spann-Ford will head into 2025 in the No. 3 spot on the depth chart once again, barring a high-profile offseason addition by Dallas.
Luke Schoonmaker
Luke Schoonmaker Takes step forward in second season
Mon, Jan 13, 2025, 12:07 PM
Schoonmaker caught 27 of 36 targets for 241 yards and a touchdown over 17 regular-season games in 2024.
Analysis: The second-year tight end took a step forward with his production, and over a three-game stretch in Weeks 11-13 during which Jake Ferguson was dealing with a concussion, Schoonmaker delivered a solid 14-144-1 line on 20 targets. The Michigan product will head into 2025 in the No. 2 spot on the Dallas depth chart, but if Ferguson deals with injuries once again, Schoonmaker has shown he's capable of handling the starting job.
Ryan Flournoy
Ryan Flournoy Gets late audition as rookie
Mon, Jan 13, 2025, 12:03 PM
Flournoy caught 10 of 14 passes for 102 yards over 11 regular-season games in 2024.
Analysis: Taken in the sixth round of the 2024 Draft as something of a developmental project, Flournoy didn't make his NFL debut until Week 5. The Southeast Missouri State product saw half of his 14 targets over the final three games while CeeDee Lamb (shoulder) was in the process of being shut down for the season, and Flournoy made a modest impact with a 6-58-0 line. He'll head into 2025 competing for depth snaps at WR with the likes of Jalen Brooks and Jonathan Mingo.
Jalen Brooks
Jalen Brooks Minimal role again in 2024
Mon, Jan 13, 2025, 11:57 AM
Brooks caught only 12 of 30 targets for 177 yards and a touchdown over 14 regular-season games in 2024.
Analysis: The second-year wideout was only charged with one drop officially, but his poor catch rate is still concerning. Brooks made more than one catch in only one 2024 game, posting a 2-26-0 line on five targets in Week 9 against the Falcons, and while he did haul in his first career TD in Week 15, his role didn't increase over the final couple games of the season while CeeDee Lamb (shoulder) was shut down. Brandin Cooks will be a free agent this offseason, but even if the Cowboys don't bring in additional help for Lamb and Jalen Tolbert at the top of the depth chart, Brooks may head into 2025 behind the likes of Jonathan Mingo and Ryan Flournoy for depth snaps at WR.
Hunter Luepke
Hunter Luepke Sees increased role as receiver
Mon, Jan 13, 2025, 11:51 AM
Luepke carried the ball 12 times for 38 yards and caught 12 of 16 targets for 111 yards over 16 regular-season games in 2024.
Analysis: The second-year fullback saw more snaps on offense (304) than he did on special teams (170), a reversal of his usage as a rookie. Luepke didn't get many touches, but he did flash some ability as a pass catcher when called upon and set career highs in receptions and receiving yards. With the Dallas backfield in flux once again as Rico Dowdle heads into free agency, Luepke could see his touch volume increase once again in 2025, but he's still very unlikely to be much of a fantasy asset.
Malik Davis
Malik Davis Staying in Dallas
Thu, Jan 9, 2025, 5:37 PM
The Cowboys signed Davis to a reserve/future contract Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Analysis: Davis spent the entire 2024 regular season on the Cowboys' practice squad after failing to make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp in late August. He wasn't elevated to the active roster for a single game, but he'll stick around in Dallas and participate in offseason training programs to compete for a roster spot for the 2025 campaign.
Jalen Cropper
Jalen Cropper Inks reserve/future deal with DAL
Mon, Jan 6, 2025, 6:52 PM
The Cowboys signed Moreno-Cropper to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Analysis: Moreno-Cropper originally signed with Dallas as an undrafted free agent in April of 2023. He's spent most of his time since on the team's practice squad, though he's gotten one elevation -- in Week 10 this season, he made his NFL debut and played 12 offensive snaps along with three special teams snaps against Philadelphia without recording any other stats. Moreno-Cropper is now set to be part of the Dallas organization through the offseason and will try to earn a roster spot during training camp next summer.
